Be a Balanced Athlete
Yoga is an ancient practice that is well suited to support today's athletes in developing the physical and mental balance needed to succeed in their sports. Yoga helps to cultivate flexibility, deep core strength and mental balance while also providing active rest and recovery.
I enjoy working with athletes of all ages, but I am particularly passionate about the benefits of yoga for youth athletes. The more time I spend teaching them, the more I see that the benefits go well beyond increased physical strength and flexibility.
Yoga also provides them with breathing techniques to manage game day stress and anxiety, an opportunity to develop the body awareness to identify structural imbalances and a very tangible way to find rest and recovery for their muscles and their minds. Plus, they really love the final pose, the complete stillness of savasana, and who can’t use more of that?
Increasingly, athletic programs at all levels are incorporating yoga to support overall physical conditioning, rest and recovery and mental focus. There are a number of ways to bring yoga into your training plan:
- Parents: Personalized sessions are available for your youth athlete or small groups of their friends or teammates at my home studio in Cohasset.
- Coaches and Athletes: Sport specific sessions can be tailored for you or your team, periodized for the season and brought to you on location.
