Yoga for Athletes is an adaptation of this ancient practice for the needs of modern athletes. Sage Rountree, author of the book Yoga for Athletes, explains the approach, "Yoga for Athletes is not necessarily athletic yoga. Most athletes are getting their workout in their workout. We presume you already have gotten in your workout for the day, or are taking a rest day. The class is therefore focused on a yoga practice that builds strength, flexibility, and focus, all of which matter for sports performance."
In this one hour class, we:
- take it slow and warm up the body from the inside out
- find length in tight muscles
- create strength in overlooked muscles
- use the breath to focus the mind
Our results oriented culture encourages us to measure everything we do. Time our races. Track our win-loss record. Go hard every time we hit the road, the track, the field or the lane. The practice of yoga provides a physical and mental counterbalance to this competition and also supports rest and recovery.
If you get out and move on a regular basis, are actively training for a sport or an event or have tight hips from everyday life, this class is for you. Starting September 16th, join me for a Yoga for Athletes class every Monday from 6:15-7:15 pm at Balance Studio in Cohasset, MA. Appropriate for all levels of yoga experience and ages 13 and up.
